Google Docs Spreadsheets and Forms

This is an experiment to see if I can embed a Google Docs spreadsheet and then see if it will update on my blog as the data is populated via forms.

I will post results of this experiment in the comments.

   It seems that you have to go to the spreadsheet on google docs and manually click re-publish spreadsheet but it is do-able. I had hoped it would work automatically and it looks like it should. I will keep checking around.

   Ah – I evidently needed to give it a few minutes because it IS updating automatically when a form is filled out and submitted!

   Under publish is a link for more options to publish. You click the drop down arrow box and choose HTML to embed in a webpage (you can also designate which sheets and which cells to embed) and then click the button to generate URL. Copy the code and paste it into your post. It defaulted to width =500 and I had to change it to 400 to get it to fit my blog so be careful of the amount of cells you plan to use across.Formatting options are limited.

   There is a scroll bar at the bottom of the spreadsheet so you can scroll over to columns not visible so you could still view data if the sheet is wider but I prefer to see all of the sheet at one time so if you were wanting to let people see a much larger sheet then it would probably be best to just publish the link.

   Hint: To delete a collaborator – “Open the spreadsheet and go to the share tab and delete the incorrect
   viewer / collaborator from the list of viewers / collaborators for that spreadsheet.
   Also untick the Advanced option ‘Invitations may be used by anyone’
   this will deny the wrongly invited person gaining access to your spreadsheet by clicking on the invitation link.”
