The Last Leaf Falls

Sunday Scribbling prompt #196: New Leaf

latente

we wait through days and nights
through the seasons
darks and lights
roaming earth by ones and twos
until the last leaf falls

seeking all and knowing nothing
wanting only
souls touching
taking paths we think we choose
until the last love calls

sifting thoughts, ideas, memories
like leaves
from autumn trees
turning over new and old
until life’s glory palls

still the end of all eludes us
seeking peace
that passeth each
one’s mortal comprehension
hoping all
is true in stories
happy endings, heroes lending
forest carpet
we all treading
til the last leaf falls

Wonderful flow in this poem, Dee. One thing I’ve decided is a marker for good poems is internal rhyme – rhymes mirroring within lines – and this one is full of them. End rhymes are often sought; internal ones seem to arise naturally – the poet’s/poem’s natural flow.

flow is how it feels when it feels good and it flows/pours with the music that the words make by themselves. I love it when that happens – you can feel it as you write/read it.

A wonderful poem. As paschal says the flow is so melodious it almost sings.

Thanks for your supportive comment on my own endeavours.

Thanks – nanowrimo was a glorious failure or word count and lessons learned. I will go back for more next year – maybe I will see you there!

    Dee,
This poem flows with a haunting melodie that carries me in you reverie. Smooth and easy to comprehend, that’s my kind of poetry.

I’m glad you liked it Cricket – fall, winter, leaves gone all feel a little like death to me. I wish for spring 🙂

Thank you Susan. I was searching for leaves and this was one of the pictures that came up and it just seemed to fit.

Susan, cynical or not, I’ll take that past wall hanging compliment and run with it! Gracias for the smile this gave me 🙂
